Omara Portuondo is a Cuban singer and dancer born in Havana.
Although best known for her interpretation of boleros, she has recorded in a wide range of styles, from jazz to Cuban son. Her warm voice and passionate interpretation have made her an icon of Cuban music.
Since her first solo album in 1959, she has recorded numerous solo albums and collaborated with a host of renowned artists throughout her career.
An important member of Buena Vista Social Club, a collective of Cuban musicians who achieved international fame in the late 1990s, she has also toured extensively and recorded several albums with the group.
Known for her international presence, in 2019, at the age of 89, she completed her last tour, but has continued to sing and collaborate with other artists ever since.
